Description

“Paleogenomics and the Peopling of the Americas”

Dr. Jennifer Raff, Ph.D., is an associate professor of Anthropology at the University of Kansas. Her research focuses on population genetics of ancient and contemporary North American peoples.

In addition to her research, Raff teaches courses on Fundamentals of Physical Anthropology, on Human Evolution, and on Critical Analysis of Scientific Literature. She has engaged public audiences on topics such as the importance of vaccination and in the teaching of evolution in schools and has worked to improve public understanding of the scientific process.

In her book, ORIGIN: A Genetic History of the Americas, published in 2022, Raff uses genetic data to dispute the “land bridge” theory of how the Americas were first inhabited. A glowing and thoughtful review of the book by Jeremy DeSilva, appeared in the New York Times.

Reception follows.
