About the Communications Department

The objective of the Communications Department at CSHL is to establish the Laboratory’s presence among essential stakeholders as a pioneering and entrepreneurial entity in research and education, positioned at the forefront of biological sciences.

We oversee communications with the media (local, national, and international) and the public regarding CSHL’s research initiatives, educational offerings, events, and other relevant updates. Our communication tools include press releases, digital distribution platforms, the website www.cshl.edu, social media channels, and direct engagement with journalists. Additionally, we address unsolicited inquiries from the media and the public concerning developments at the Laboratory.

We encourage credentialed journalists to subscribe to our embargoed content.

Embargo List Eligibility

We welcome accredited journalists and freelance writers to sign up for access to our embargoed content (see “Media Sign up,” below). We will frequently post the text of news releases, and occasionally feature content, on an embargoed basis. Credentialed media have access to this content, and are expected to strictly observe posted embargo dates.

Embargo Policy

Content labeled as “embargoed” is intended for the exclusive use of eligible and accredited media. Access will be granted to individuals deemed to have demonstrated media credentials and a credible interest in writing about Cold Spring Harbor Laboratory. In signing up, you agree without exception to obey embargo dates that we indicate in all embargoed materials, and agree not to publish, publicize or in any other way publicly divulge the content of the embargoed material before such embargoes lift. If accredited media have questions about the terms or dates of posted embargoes, they should contact the Communications team directly, via phone at 516-367-8455 or email at publicaffairs@cshl.edu. Those who violate posted embargoes will no longer have access to this content.
